Tired of cold weather, snow, icy roads and the like? Then turn your attention to the coming of spring and the 24th annual IISAA Spring Workshop. The 2019 workshop will be held on Saturday, April 13. The event will return to North United Methodist Church, at 38th and Meridian streets in Indianapolis.
The sessions will continue our program-of-work theme, Principles of Recovery. This theme lends itself to a broad range of recovery topics. SAA’s 12 Steps and 12 Traditions both encourage recovering sex addicts to adopt the principles which underlie our program of recovery. But, what exactly are these principles to which Step 12 and Tradition 12 refer?
Numerous people, including Bill W., in Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, have attempted to pinpoint the underlying principles that permeate our program of recovery. Each principle has a philosophical basis and corresponding actions that convey the principle (see the series on the Principles on pp. 4 and 5 of this issue of The Winter Check-IN and in the previous two issues).
Jeff W., the workshop chair, is looking for presenters who can share their experience, strength and hope as it relates to our program’s call to practice these principles in our lives (Step 12) and to place principles before personalities (Tradition 12). If you don’t feel qualified to be a presenter, consider helping with set-up, registration, hospitality, or clean-up. Jeff will find a spot for anyone who wants to help. Contact Jeff at 317 341-4012 to let him know how you want to be of service at the workshop.

Intergroup will offer its 28th annual holiday pot-luck party on Saturday, December 18, at Lawrence United Methodist Church (5200 N. Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis.
The party is open to all SAA members and their adult guests (18 and older).
The social hour will begin at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
Intergroup will provide the meat, drinks, tableware, and decorations for the party. Each person/couple is asked to bring a salad, covered dish or dessert to share.
To avoid an overabundance of one dish and none of another, it is suggested that guests bring items based on their last initial:
- A-I Appetizer or Salad
- J-R Hot Dish
- S-Z Dessert
A flyer with complete details will be available following the November Intergroup meeting.
IISAA Fall Retreat – October 19, 20, 21, 2018
Exploring the Cardinal Principals of Recovery
This retreat is for sex addicts and co-dependents of sex addicts who are members of SA, SAA, SCA, SLAA and COSA.
Cardinal Principals of Recovery
One definition of the word “principle” is, the basic way in which something works. And, that is the way we are using the term as we look at the basics of the SAA program.
Some principles are defined within the structure of an organization. Just as there are an official 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of Service, that many recovery programs follow, there are also 12 Principles. Some of the other basic understandings of working a recovery program are experiential; they are learned in the process of doing the work.
Much of the “collective experience” of 12-Step programs is sharing those principles of recovery that have led others to sobriety and serenity.
During the retreat, we will examine both the formal and informal principles that underlie our program of recovery.
If you decide to attend the retreat after October 5, it is best to register by phone. Please call Mike C. at (317) 784-2180.
